On Thursday 21 January 2021, the Adult Dyslexia Centre collaborated with Slough Council for Voluntary Services (Slough CVS) and the Windsor Ascot and Maidenhead Community Database (WAM:Get Involved) to run an interactive dyslexia awareness course, virtually via Zoom. This was the first workshop delivered remotely and was met with huge success; we were able to welcome a diverse group of participants from all across the UK and beyond.

The interactive workshop was led by our experienced tutor, Jeanette Benbow. Also taking part was our dyslexia ambassador, Daisy Dance, who is dyslexic herself and spoke very positively about the strengths it has given her throughout her career as a singer/songwriter.

After 1.5 hours of engaging presentations and group discussions, 90% of the group stayed online to ask more questions which was both encouraging and insightful.

Participants left with a better understanding of dyslexia, coping strategies, its impact on other learning differences and accessing appropriate support at work.

Many of the participants agreed that they learnt more from this workshop than from anything else they had read or seen about dyslexia.

The Adult Dyslexia Centre is looking forward to running more successful workshops this year, particuarly for employers.
